Merril Grundy

Head of Finance

Merril joined Wirral Ark in 2012 and is an accountant who has gained experience at various senior management positions. She then took the decision to step into the charity sector and utilise her breadth of experience to help guide the business and give back.  “When I joined Wirral Ark the charity was still relatively small but with ambition to grow and help more people throughout the area, I have since seen the number of beds we offer increase from 41 to 68” 

Charlie Eldred

Services manager

Charlie has been working in the homelessness field since 1985. He has attained a level of knowledge and experience across charities such as St Mungo’s Thames reach and Broadway. He relocated to the north in 2011 and worked at Crewe YMCA and the Powerhouse Foyer before starting at Wirral Ark as Alcohol Project Coordinator setting up a Controlled Drinking Environment to get people away from drinking on the streets. In 2019 joined the Senior Management team as Services Manager and oversees all support staff across the organisation.

Norman Jones


Norman Jones is a qualified solicitor; he ran his own firm for 26 years and became President of the Liverpool Law Society. He now works as a consultant at Percy Hughes & Roberts Solicitors. Norman is a member of the Rotary Club of Birkenhead and was its president until 2013. Norman was attracted to join the Wirral Ark by his ethos in fighting for the underdog, he is also a practicing Catholic and maintains his Christian ethos in all that he does. 

Gill Ferris


Gill has a long career in housing and regeneration, holding various senior and Board roles with Great Places, Places for People, Liverpool Housing Trust, several Local Authorities and a supported housing charity. Gill currently works as a self-employed business consultant and has previously worked as Head of Development and Regeneration at Liverpool Housing Trust. 

Mel Godfrey


A Board member since 2016 Mel Godfrey has a professional background that spans housing, regeneration, and homelessness. His thirty years of senior experience spans housing associations, local authorities, regeneration companies and as an independent consultant. He continues to want to make a difference for the hard-to-reach homeless population of Wirral.  

Peter Ashley-Mudie


Peter Ashley-Mudie joined Wirral Ark as a Trustee in 2013. He is an experienced Director with a demonstrated history of working in Social Work, Non-profit Organizations, Clinical Research, Coaching, Case Management, and Strategic Planning. In addition to his work at Wirral Ark, in 2018 he was elected as a Governor of Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Ian Roughley


Ian Roughley joined Wirral Ark in 2018, having over 22 years of experience within the Housing sector, and having held various key senior positions with specific specialisms in Construction, Compliance and Health and Safety. Ian joined Wirral Ark as he could see the hardships being faced by those in need on the Wirral and wanted to understand more and help. I found that the passion of the staff and volunteers was amazing, I am proud to say I am part of an organisation like Wirral Ark 

Andrew Roberts


Andrew is a retired Public Sector finance manager with over 30 years’ experience in Local Government, focussed in the area of People Services for Adults, Children and Schools. His role had oversight and accountability for an overall budget in excess of £400m and a team of Accountants and Finance staff. Most recently areas included financial support to set up a joint Venture Company providing commercial services to schools “It is a privilege to be a part of Wirral Ark, to support the homeless on Wirral and to help make a difference in the fight against homelessness”.
