Volunteering

Update January 2016

Unfortunately, we are not taking on any new volunteers at the moment however we will update the details on this page when we do, so please keep checking back.

Volunteers are a crucial part of the work we do, and we are extremely grateful to those individuals that take the time to contact us and offer their time to us. We’ve compiled some frequently asked questions about volunteering at Wirral Ark…

How old do I need to be?

You need to be over 18.

What sort of things can I do?

This all depends on the needs of the hostel. Some of our existing volunteers provide support in the kitchen and on reception. We also have people that come in a work with our clients, offering support such as reading or befriending. Our aim is to ensure that your time, skills and commitment are used to the benefit of all.

What do I need to do?

As we work with vulnerable adults, we need to recruit safely and therefore we will undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Whilst criminal convictions won’t exclude you from volunteering, we just need to know about it. We are committed to your protection and well-being while you volunteer with us, as well as the protection of our staff and clients.

What’s the application process?

You’ll be asked to complete an application form and have an informal interview. We’ll supply you with an outline of the duties you will undertake and a volunteer agreement.

Are there any other ways I can get involved?

Yes, we run many fundraising events throughout the year, such as supermarket bag packs and we often need people to help with these. We also sell packs of Christmas cards from November, so if you are interested in selling these on our behalf, please do get in touch. You can sign up to receive updates from us on the website contact page.

Do you know of any other organisations that may need volunteers?

The following organisations are provided as a guide. We are not able to comment on their behalf  that they have any volunteering opportunities and you should enquire with them direct.
